We give thanks for the good that has been brought into the world by the
Olympic Games. Eighty-two countries have sent competitors to Vancouver,
Canada, to enjoy sport and Olympic friendship. We praise your name when we
see young people embrace in fellowship--particularly when they are from
countries that are in dispute. We thank you for the example shown by Olympic
competitors from Israel and Iran, Greece and Turkey, and many others.
Lord of all - receive our thanks for the spirit of friendship across
nations.

Wise and merciful God, we pray for all those who influence events around
this world and make decisions which may affect many people. We pray that
they may know how to act and what to say, to be true to teachings of Christ.


--We pray for politicians and business leaders in their continued efforts
to stabilize the world economy, especially in Greece where the government
has instituted drastic measures.

--We pray for the political leaders seeking to provide long-term help to
the people in Haiti. With homes, hospitals, churches all now in ruins, a
huge task lies before the Haitian people and all those willing to help their
neighbour. In today’s interconnected world, every country is Haiti’s
neighbour and we praise Your name for the many, many countries that are engaged
with Haiti’s future.

--We pray for the leaders who are making battle plans in Afghanistan:
that the actions of the next few months will shorten the war and bring peace to
that troubled country. God of peace, bring reconciliation into the
hearts of all your people in all your lands.
